how to renew your Medicaid coverage
Renew your Medicaid to keep your health coverage for another year.
Each year, everyone with Medicaid must go through a renewal process to keep their coverage.
Because everyone’s renewal date is different, it is important that you stay renewal ready. Follow the steps below to keep your health coverage for another year.
Here’s what you need to do to make sure you have Medicaid for another year:
STEP 1
Log in to MyMedicaid.LA.Gov
Go to MyMedicaid.LA.Gov and log in to your account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one.
Did you know? You can manage your Medicaid benefits and case information online through My Medicaid.
STEP 2
Make sure your address is correct.
If you have Medicaid coverage, it is important to keep your address up to date. This is because important documents, like your renewal form, will be mailed to you.
To verify your address, log in to MyMedicaid.LA.Gov
You can also verify and update your contact information over the phone. If you’re a Louisiana Healthcare Connections member, call us at 1-866-595-8133 (TTY: 711), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. if you need help or have questions.
STEP 3
Watch your mail.
You should get your renewal letter in the mail about one month before your due date.
Your renewal letter will tell you if you need to provide additional information to renew your coverage and it will provide a deadline for renewing.
STEP 4
Follow the instructions to renew.
Remember to check the due date on your renewal letter. You will need to submit the requested information by the deadline or your Medicaid coverage could be interrupted. This means you may not be able to see your doctor or get your prescriptions until your renewal is processed, even if you are still eligible.
You may need to provide the following information:
- Social Security numbers
- Employer and income information (like paystubs, W-2 forms or tax returns)
- Policy numbers for other health insurance or information about any job-related health insurance available to your family
There are four (4) ways to submit the information to renew your coverage:
- Renew online at MyMedicaid.LA.Gov
- Log into your account and choose “Renew my Coverage.”
- Haven’t created an online account yet? Use the same link to create an account. You’ll need your Medicaid card number to create an account.
- Renew over the telephone by calling toll free at 1-888-342-6207.
- Fill out and return your renewal packet
- U.S Mail:
Medicaid Application Office, P.O. Box 91278, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-9893 - Fax: 1-877-523-2987
- U.S Mail:
- Renew in person at the Medicaid office of your choice.
If you have questions, ask! You can contact your Medicaid regional office or call the Louisiana Medicaid hotline at 1-888-342-6207, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
STEP 5
Get other coverage if you are no longer eligible for Medicaid.
If you no longer qualify for Medicaid, you have affordable health insurance options. Explore low-cost plans for you and your family.
If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, it is important to apply for other health insurance so that you stay covered. Ask your job about health insurance or visit Healthcare.gov to find a marketplace (“Obamacare”) health plan. Financial help is available and many people find a plan for $10 a month or less. IMPORTANT: You only have 60 days to enroll in a new marketplace plan during the “special enrollment period.”
